Recount text adalah suatu teks yang menyatakan pengalaman atau kejadian-kejadian yang dialami oleh penulis  di masa lalu. Tujuan dari recount text adalah untuk memberi informasi atau menghibur pembaca. Sebuah recount text memiliki orientasi, kronologis kejadian, dan reorientasi.

Struktur sebuah recount text yaitu :

Orientasi : mengenalkan partisipan, waktu dan tempat.

Events : Menjelaskan seri kejadian-kejadian yang dialami dimasa lampau.

Reorientasi : Komentar pribadi dari penulis cerita.

Language feature atau fitur bahasa pada sebuah teks recount adalah sebagai berikut:

-          Mengenalkan partisipan (I, my group, dll)

-          Menggunakan kata hubung yang menunjukkan kronologi kejadian: then, first, dll

-          Menggunakan kata kerja penghubung   : was, were, heard, saw

-          Menggunakan simple past tense.

Contoh Recount text:

My Journey from Home to Campus

I had a good day yesterday, my journey from my house to campus was a good journey. First, I woke up at 4 am and had a morning prayer. After the morning prayer, I prepared all I needed for studying at that day, including books, stationary and clothes for me to wear. When the clock showed its needle on 6 am, I started to put my shoes on and left the house, and went to the train station. I used online transportation to get me to the station. When I ordered the driver online, I found that the driver had disabilities of talking and hearing. I felt sorry for him but I learned something that even you are not in  a good condition we should not give up to live and to always have hope. I went to my campus with humbling heart and also I did not forget to give extra tip for the driver. Once I reached the train station, I saw centered crowd on the east area of the station.  I went there because I could not resist my curiosity. Once I reached the spot, suddenly a sales girl dared me to join a quick quiz in order to get an expensive parfume for free. I was asked a simple question and I answered it correctly. Finally, She gave me the parfume and I felt like it was my luckiest day. I saw the clock almost 7 am, then I left the crowd. I finally  got into the commuter line that took me to my campus.
